White Wine
| £ per bottle (75cl) Inc Vat |
|
| 2009 MOKO Black Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough |
£8.50 |
| Classic Marlborough Sauvignon - pungent passion fruit, cut grass and grapefruit that
almost jump out of the glass! Extended lees ageing has given this wine more intensity and
generous fruit flavours with more texture and weight. |
|
| 2009 Ant Moore Pinot Gris, Marlborough |
£9.50 |
| Ant Moore is known for making wines that are well balanced yet still complex. This is
a sophisticated white with a hint of lime, racy acidity, and a fresh yet crisp mineral edge,
this is truly mouth-watering. Not blousy or over-ripe, this young wine has a delicious
mouth-feel and a long, clean finish. |
|
| 2007 Wither Hills Chardonnay, Marlborough |
£11.95 |
| This is a rich and mouth-filling white showing flavours of lime fruit with smoky oak
and hints of butterscotch. A delicious Marlborough Chardonnay that’s barrel-fermented
and barrel-matured and the ideal partner to seafood, salmon, chicken or turkey. |
|
| 2008 Mount Nelson Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough |
£11.95 |
| This wine is as fully fruited as you'd expect from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Wonderful fresh floral notes with a dusting of fresh-cut grass and dried herbs. A satisfying
core of wet cool stones that (gently) tips its hats to the mineral-driven examples of
Pouilly Fumé and Sancerre. The finish is intense but restrained |
Red Wine
| £ per bottle (75cl) Inc Vat |
|
| 2009 MOKO Black Pinot Noir , Central Otago (Available May 2010) |
£10.25 |
| Vibrant wild thyme, spice, liquorice, rich raspberry jam and cherry aromatics. The
palate is all about Central Otago showing elegance and a soft powerful tannin structure supporting
cherry, cassis, chocolate and raspberry spice flavours. This will drink wonderfully with A Peking
duck! |
|
| 2007 Ata Rangi Célèbre, Martinborough |
£22.00 |
| An intriguing blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon that's a mellow and meaty mix of deeply ripe berry fruit and dried leaves. The palate delivers chewy tannin amid sweet dark berry and plum fruits. Drink now-2015. |
White Wine
| £ per bottle (75cl) Inc Vat |
|
| 2008 Marktree Semillon & Chardonnay, South Eastern Australia |
£5.95 |
| A crisp fresh style with delicate floral aromas, a medium palate with rich fruit
expression and a well balanced long elegant finish. The base for this wine is some fantastic
Semillon, so unlike many other house wines , this will actually improve over the course of the year. |
|
| 2008 Soldiers Block Chardonnay, Mclaren Vale |
£7.00 |
| This vibrant, peachy Chardonnay has all the rich mouth-feel, weight and generosity
of fruit expected while retaining acidity and offering more elegant melon and fig characters too.
A touch of creaminess and leesy complexity also rewards on the finish. Picked perfectly ripe
to obtain peach and melon flavours. |
|
| 2007 Knappstein Handpicked Riesling, Clare Valley |
£9.75 |
| Brilliant benchmark Australian Riesling! This wine has citrus and lime-juice fruit with
racy acidity and a long aftertaste. It is a perfect aperitif, but also has more than enough
richness to deal with virtually any fish, chicken or Asian spiced seafood dish. |
|
| 2007 Old Broke Block Semillon, Hunter Valley |
£10.85 |
| Scottish Baron, exile from the House of Lords and former racing driver, Robin Tedder
MW is an evangelist for New South Wales' wines. As you might expect, Hunter Semillon is
his passion and ten minutes in his company is all you need to be convinced of its greatness.
Classic, unwooded, low alcohol Semillon but with a measure of ripe citrus fruit characters. The
2007 has the crisp racy mouth-watering acidity typical of this vineyard. |
|
| 2010 Monster, Monsters Attack! Clare Riesling, Available August |
£15.50 |
| I have to say, I did fall for the label with this one. And lucky I did. Firstly, it is a very
good thing for a producer to be making a style of Riesling that is very light in alcohol (10.9%)
and has some residual sugar retained. When done right, this style is very welcome. This has good
madarin citrus tones, the sweetness is not overdone, and it evaporates on the tongue. Watch what
you eat with this - the bottle disappears alarmingly quickly! |
Red Wine
| £ per bottle (75cl) Inc Vat |
|
| 2007 Marktree Merlot Cabernet Shiraz, South Eastern Australia |
£5.95 |
| The red Marktree blend offers a soft, juicy immediately appealing style with bright red
fruit aromas, a subtle hint of spicy oak, intense damson fruit on the palate with a restrained tannic structure. Concentrated and unusually complex for a wine of its type but effortlessly drinkable! |
|
| 2008 Soldiers Block Shiraz, Mclaren Vale |
£7.00 |
| This attractive and fruity Shiraz is a typical Australian cold climate red. Concentrated
yet pleasant mulberry and blackberry character with a hint of black pepper on the nose.
The finish is long with a tickling of easy-going tanins. |
|
| 2008 The Stump Jump, GSM, d’Arenberg, Mclaren Vale |
£8.50 |
| This is a well balanced and full flavoured wine at a very competitive price. Named after
an old plough that used to bounce over the gnarled Eucalyptus stumps. |
|
| 2005 Madfish Cabernet Merlot, Western Australia |
£10.35 |
| Brilliant dark cherry red with an aromatic nose of berry fruits, mulberry and chocolate.
The palate is full and ripe with sweet berries and well balanced acid and oak. The wine is driven
predominantly by the power of the Cabernet with softness and juiciness from the Merlot. A touch
of oak adds complexity and the finish is soft and generous. |
|
| 2008 Ninth Island Pinot Noir, Tasmania |
£13.00 |
| This Pinot is beautifully perfumed and displays the cherry and raspberry fruits typical
of cool climate Pinot Noir. A soft silky palate is supported by a fine tannin backbone
that makes it ideal for early consumption. |
|
| 2008 Passion Has Red Lips, Some Young Punks, Clare Valley |
£12.50 |
| Some Young Punks is a label produced by Adelina Wines. The names and labels are
trashy and eye-catching but the bottom line is that the wines are good. We love Clare reds, and
should drink more. Black is the word with them, but not necessarily full and sweet. Passion Has
Red Lips has excellent blackberry tones, tar, licorice and crunchy tannins and the length is very
good. This is not just about the clever label - quality for the money is here in this bottle. |
|
| 2006 Leston Cabernet Sauvignon, Margret River |
£16.00 |
| The Leston Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense dark red colour with great limpidity. Its
bouquet is intense and led by blackcurrant and berry fruits with some cool year undertones of
tomato leaf and dried sage. Behind the primary fruits are distinctive vineyard characteristics of
dark chocolate. A background of cedar which will recede further as the fruits emerge with
some bottle age. |
|
| 2006 Cascabel Shiraz, Fleurieu, Mclaren Vale |
£19.00 |
| This is brilliant. The inky, ruby and purple-tinged Shiraz offers up gorgeous scents of
blackberries, cassis, damp earth, truffles, and tar. Additional notes of white chocolate emerge in the
mouth. This intense, dense, full-bodied, opulent Shiraz is a total hedonistic as well as intellectual
turn-on. It spent 18 months in 500 litre French oak pungeons. Drink it over the next 7-10 years. |
