Sweet Wines

France (Bordeaux)

2005 Château Loupiac Gaudiet, Loupiac (37.5cl)	£8.00
The misty mornings of Autumn and sunny afternoons are perfect for the development of Botrytis cinerea, “Noble Rot”. Once the fungus has appeared, it concentrates the sugars by consuming water in the grape. A beautiful gold colour, with apricot perfume and honey, great balancing acidity, texture and length. This wine will give immense pleasure.
2005 Château Levant, Sauternes (37.5cl)	£12.00
What a lovely rich wine! Full of butterscotch, honey and citrus fruits with a fantastic freshness to set off the sweetness. Perfect with Crème Brûlée, fruit tarts and Fois Gras!
2001 Chartreuse de Coutet, Sauternes (75cl)	£30.00
This is the second wine of Château Coutet. Classified as Premier Cru (First Growth) in 1855, the estate covers 95 acres of vines immediately surrounding the château near the village of Barsac. The vineyards are planted 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle with an average age of 35 years.
2001 Château Laufarie Peruguay (75cl)	£70.00
A lovely nose, full of oranges, barley sugar, honey and floral herbs. The palate has simply fabulous freshness, with fine acidity carrying along a panoply of flavours led by sweet orange fruit with notes of orange blossom, honey and minerals. A delicious creamy style, supported by a little grip, that fine acidity giving structure. This is wonderful wine!

Italy

2002 Vin Santo del Chianti, Riccardo Falchini, Tuscany (50cl)	£15.00
Late-harvested Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes are picked carefully by hand, and dried on straw matts. The raisins are then pressed and fermented slowly in cherry and chestnut wooden barrels and left to mature for four years. The result is sweet nectar!

Spain

2008 Moscatel Senorio de Sarria, Navarra (50cl)	£12.00
This is an unctuous, concentrated, and bright dessert wine that beautifully embodies the Moscatel grape. Intense aromas of honey, wildflower, and white peach lead into an equally enticing palate.. Enjoy slightly chilled with fois gras, aged cheese, and just about any dessert.

South Africa

2006 Straw Wine, De Trafford (37.5cl)	£25.00
Self-taught winemaker and former architect David Trafford’s small but stellar production is regularly cited as being among the Cape’s very best. David’s winemaking philosophy is deceptively simple: to make the best possible wine he can whilst retaining a sense of place. To do this he embraces Stellenbosch’s warm, sunny climate and rich, clay soils, noting that his vines are not planted on “the shagged out alluvial plains of the Medoc with their miserable climate”. The wines tend to agree with him. They have rich fruit and a juicy ripeness but they are crisply pressed and structured too. His ability to blend New World innovation and Old World methodology can perhaps be best seen in his sweet Straw Wine, which has quickly become one of the Cape’s most fiercely sought after wines.

Port

NV Dry White Port, Niepoort	£13.00
Niepoort Dry White is made in the traditional style with long skin maceration. The final blend includes different wines aged in oak casks making an average of 3-5 years. Dry White is lovely if served chilled as an aperitif or as a long drink with tonic water, ice and a twist of lemon.
NV Tawny Port, Niepoort	£12.00
The Tawny ages in oak casks for 3 to 5 years. Freshness, lightness and balance are the key elements of this wine. It has a bright colour and soft and sweet tannins. Tawny port keeps well for several years, although the wine will not improve with age. It contains no sediment and need not be decanted. It has a wonderful combination of coffee caramel and raisin flavours and keeps for a month once opened, it can be served at room temperature or slightly chilled.
NV Ruby Port, Niepoort	£13.00
Dirk Niepoort believes that the colour of the port should be inspired by the "ruby stone" (a dark colour of Ruby). The Ruby is fresh, young and fruity with lots of red cherries and red fruits. Ruby keeps well for several years and no decanting is necessary since the wine contains no sediment.
2005 Late Bottled Vintage, Niepoort	£17.50
Late Bottled Vintage port is a from a single year. The wine ages for 4-6 years in old oak casks (as opposed to Vintage Port which ages for 2-3 years). This produces a wine in the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Madeira

Veramar Boal Reserve, Vinhos Barbeito	£15.00
The small Madeira house of Barbeito was founded in 1946. It quickly established the best vineyards and cellars on the island and a range which became the envy of competitors. Since Ricardo de Freitas took the helm of the family in 1991 he has concentrated on recreating the authentic old styles of Madeira naturally aged in casks.
Malvasia 10 Year Old Reserve Malmsey, Vinhos Barbeito	£24.00
Traditionally the sweetest of Madeiras, it has a lovely light golden colour, and a very smooth, clean, fresh nose of creamy toffee and nuts. Smooth and luscious on the palate, there are deep-set chocolate flavours, and a hint of something juicy and almost tropical, like peach or nectarine. Long and very pure, this is another really unusual and excellent wine.
