Key to its success are the country’s diverse topography and climate which enable the growth of many different grapes and styles of wine. France is the spiritual home of nearly all modern grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Medoc in Bordeaux, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Burgundy, and Syrah from the Rhône, not to mention Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley, and Gewurztraminer from Alsace as well as many, many others!
